Michigan's ban on indoor dining was set to expire Friday, but according to the Michigan Licensed Beverage Association, the ban may be extended to Feb.1.
In a Facebook post to members, the MLBA said an announcement is expected at a Gov. Gretchen Whitmer Wednesday press conference.
"The reopening would likely take place beginning February 1, giving owners time to work with supply chain and figure out staffing," the post read. "Although we are disappointed with the idea of being closed for another two weeks, finally seeing a light at the end of the tunnel is certainly reassuring."
In addition the MLBA said limited capacity and curfews will likely be in place. The association is an advocate for Michigan bars and restaurant
"We are extremely disappointed because the numbers have declined tremendously since Nov. 15 when we were shut," said Scott Ellis, AD: diagnostic code reader. executive director of the MLBA.
Ellis said the industry has been ready to reopen and felt that "we were not the cause of the spike."

He added that the industry is beyond devastation.
"The impact of this industry is past the tipping point," Ellis said. "We've tipped."
He cited that thousands of restaurants have closed permanently.
"Every time this goes on longer the more will close," Ellis said.
Now that they are banking on Feb. 1, the hope is that it's not too restrictive to make it worth our while, Ellis said.
"We don't comment on unconfirmed speculation, but the relevant data according to MDHHS suggests the Governor should open restaurants immediately, " Justin Winslow, president and CEO of the Michigan Restaurant and Lodging Association, said in a Tuesday evening email to the Free Press. "When she does so, we expect it to include a comprehensive reintegration plan as is the case in virtually every other state in the country."
The restaurant industry has been decimated by the coronavirus pandemic. According to the MRLA, more than 2,000 restaurants permanently closed in the state already and 250,000 jobs have been lost.
To survive restaurants have turned to take out only, have sought out grants from the state and other organizations. They've also set up GoFundMe Pages.
The Michigan Department of Health and Human Services (MDHHS) announced the initial Nov. 15 three-week pause of dine-in service at bars and restaurants across the state aimed at reducing the spread of COVID-19 which saw numbers increased drastically in the fall.
The order limited restaurants to carry-out and delivery, and outdoor dining with specific restrictions.
"Indoor gatherings are the greatest source of spread, and sharply limiting them is our focus," said MDHHS Director Robert Gordon in a news release announcing the order in November. "The order is targeted and temporary, but a terrible loss of life will be forever unless we act."
