As an early years practitioner you will specialise in working with
babies and young children, from birth to five years old. You'll be
qualified to work in a wide range of settings, including daycare,
nurseries and preschools, academies and free schools, out of school
settings and children's centres as well as home based childcare such as
childminding.Teacher training for early years or nursery education
At the Institute of Education, we offer a number of routes into Early
Years Initial Teacher Training. Our courses will give you the range of
skills, experience and knowledge you need to become a specialist in
early childhood development. You will learn from a diverse and
incredibly experienced community of world class academics, benefit from
our network of flexible placements, and enjoy a broad range of resources
and facilities.
GRADUATES: WANT TO QUALIFY AS AN EARLY YEARS TEACHER?
If you have an undergraduate degree but have no experience of working
with young children you can enrol on our full-time PGCEYP (Postgraduate
Certificate in Early Years Practice) course and gain EYTS (Early Years
Teacher Status).
Or, if you have an undergraduate degree and are employed within an early
years setting (for example in a day nursery) you can enrol on to the
Graduate Employer Course. You will complete the PGCEYP and gain EYTS
whilst continuing working.
If you have an undergraduate degree and would like to enhance your
education and leadership skills our MA Education (Early Years) will give
you the knowledge you need to develop professionally. This course does
not provide EYTS (Early Years Teacher Status).
